Here are a few pictures from our Chicago trip – most of them taken at or near my sister’s house in Winnetka.  It is such a wonderful little neighborhood.  Seems like a good old-fashioned town.  Can you believe they still have a milk man there??  You know…the kind I used to have when I was little.  The same man drove the milk truck through our neighborhood for years, and he dropped off whatever milk my Mom had ordered on our doorstep.  If we were around when he dropped it off, we could chase him out to the truck and ask for a box of popsicles too – he would just charge them to our account!  Can you believe that?  What a wonderful time to grow up…

One of my favorite stops on our trip was very close to my sister’s house…  Do you remember the movie Home Alone?   Well…the house that Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) lives in is right around the corner from where she lives, and even closer to the park that Kevin runs through after he steals a toothbrush from the drug store.  Do you remember that scene?  He is running from the police officer, and he cuts through a part and slides on his knees across an ice skating rink.  Well…check out my pictures…

Home Alone Park

Here are my two kids – not totally understanding the greatness of this melting ice rink – – the same spot that Macaulay Culkin slid across on his knees in Home Alone!

And of course here is the famous Gazebo from the movie too! Sadly, I’ve heard rumors that they are going to tear this down when they update and improve this park area.

My kids weren’t totally impressed that a movie that I watched when I was younger was filmed at this park.  I, however, was totally amazed and re-living every moment of the Home Alone movie from 1990.  What a funny show.  I wanted them to understand how cool this was, but just couldn’t seem to get my point across.  So…we headed off to the Home Alone house.  I was sure that this would get their attention.

Here they are in front of Kevin McCallister’s house. It hasn’t changed much since the movie. At least not on the outside. According to my sister, someone is out front all the time taking this same silly picture! Again…my kids weren’t nearly as impressed as I was!

This didn’t really get their attention either.  To them, it was just a big, red brick house, and they didn’t understand why I was so insistent on making them pose in front of it.  “I’m going to post it to Facebook,” I told them.  “People will love it.  Everyone knows about this movie.”  Well…everyone but my kids.  It was then that I realized that I had never sat down with them and watched this movie.  They had seen parts of it on television – – it usually plays around the holidays, but we’d never watched it from start to finish.  Oh well…my mistake.  Maybe before our next visit to Winnetka, we can watch it!

My kids were most impressed and excited about the giant “snirt” (snow/dirt) hill that was behind the park sign. They didn’t care about Home Alone or hearing me re-tell the story. They just wanted to climb the snirt hill!

Here is another giant "snirt" hill in Winnetka! My kids loved these more than anything else.

So…as you can see from the pictures in the image gallery, there is lots of fun to be had in this small town outside of Chicago!  Look it up…it’s called Winnetka!   Until next time…
